Financial meltdown cracks global warming

Unrestrained, unsustainable financial growth is wrecking the planet.

Financial meltdown offers the planet hope - we are a long way from starving. A little bit of belt tightening and a sound economy might yet clear the coronary arteries of the western world's self inflicted heart disease

I don't think we need to bail out bankers.
I have more compassion for polar bears than bankers. Polar bears are polar bears. Bankers chose to be bankers and could still choose to be of some social benefit, assuming they are fully paid up members of the human race

Like something from the hand of Cocteau, recession will come and park in front of us. Why should it be the end if we have to live in a more restrained way? Could we have gone on growing forever?

How strange it is to wake in a different world. It needs new minds with ways of coping with bruised hopes. It is not enough that ideas rhyme and chime in our heads - they must work. We must be game for more than a laugh from this moment on.
